What is Cittaslow?
Cittaslow, we can call it an association of international municipalities. Founded in Italy in 1999, the union is based on the combination of Italian “citta (city)” and English “slow” words. So Cittaslow actually means Slow City. Cittaslow has to fulfill more than 70 criteria in order to be a city. In short, being in Cittaslow is not so easy.
The main philosophy of the Cittaslow movement is based on the fact that the cities have their own identities, the cities that appear as the unpleasant consequences of globalization prevent them from resembling each other and leave them. In Cittaslow cities, local food, local architecture, customs, customs, culture and local people are supported and supported.
According to the data of the International Cittaslow Group , as of March 2016 213 cities in 30 countries have received Cittaslow status.
Cittaslow in our country
Seferihisar, the beautiful city of İzmir, is the forerunner of the Cittaslow movement, which has affected the world. After the Seferihisar, the city of Erzurum, which was included in the union in the last days of 11 cities including this flow, is Uzundere.
Being Turkey’s first Cittaslow, Seferihisar is a town that has pioneered other provinces. Due to the fact that it was surrounded by the surrounding areas and military areas, it could not stay away from the urbanization projects concentrated in İzmir. With the municipality adopting the “slow” philosophy, the townspeople have built a unique culture by keeping up with this philosophy. Seferihisar is also mentioning his name with a number of projects carried out together with Cittaslow culture. The most important thing to see in Seferihisar, which is home to many historical buildings like Sığacık Castle, Teos Ancient City, Lebedos Ancient City, Kasım Çelebi Madrasah, Beyler Village Aqueducts, is how the cittaslow philosophy of the town lived.
